It’s time for a hotly anticipated Blend of the Month as we kick off our Denis Villeneuve marathon! Starting out in Canadien cinema, Villeneuve had his global breakthrough with Incendies. Christian and Scott welcome on friend of the show Keenan Culler (the Hollywood Week podcast) to discuss Villeneuve’s career and review Incendies. It’s his highest-rated film on Letterboxd, but some critics have criticized it as a weaker effort. Where will our hosts land?

Spooky September comes to a close, as Christian and Scott look at their final horror franchise: Candyman. With the latest Candyman film still in theaters, the two checked out the original from 1992 before hitting the multiplex to see the latest entry. This month, Christian has preferred the modern films, and Scott has preferred the originals. Which way will our co-hosts lean this time?

This week, we look at Fast Color, Julia Hart’s 2018 feature. Fast Color is not only smaller in content, it’s one of the least-seen movies yet covered in the podcast. S2E27 Women Directing Sci-FI: Deep Impact

It’s time for the first episode of the August blend of the month: Women of SciFi. Although female directors have not often been entrusted with original sci-fi films, there are still some interesting options out there. Scott and Christian start their look at this topic with a film that made its director the most financially successful female director at the time: Deep Impact. Coming out the same year as Michael Bay’s similarly-themed Armageddon, Deep Impact made $350 million at the global box office, but was poorly reviewed. Did our caffeinated co-hosts find a hidden gem, or will they side with the critics?
